OBJECTIVE
The original task was to create a two-tone series of cards featuring
a selection of cards and one suit. However afterwards, I decided
to elevate the project by designing a complete deck, including
all suits and characters, to make it fully functional for gameplay.
To enhance the design, I incorporated the original colours of the
Mario characters, ensuring the deck was both vibrant and true to its
inspiration.
PROCESS
I designed the deck of cards with a Mario theme, inspired by its
importance to my family. To add a unique touch, I used baby versions
of the characters, assigning the main ones to the title cards—ace,
king, queen, jack, and Bowser. Thin suit outlines were added behind
the characters for easy recognition.
The suits were represented by symbols from the New Super Mario
game: mushrooms, stars, coins, and Goombas. The card backs and
box featured staggered game blocks with the New Super Mario title
in its signature font. To maintain cohesion, I styled the numbers using
a Mario-themed font.
